The Holy Spirit Is Our Teacher

October 12, 2018

WHO IS THE Holy Spirit?

When Jesus ascended to Heaven, He promised to send us the Holy Spirit; our teacher, guide, and inner conscience.

JOHN 16:13
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

JOHN 14:26-26
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

The Holy Spirit is the powerhead of all creation, hovering over everything God is doing, and has ever done. The Holy Spirit brings the same anointing that Jesus has in the Bible. It's where all miracles stem from, and the living, breathing spirit of God. That same power Jesus had in scripture, has been given to believers. Isn't it amazing to know that the Holy Spirit dwells within you! You are more powerful than you will think, because that's God's spirit, living in you!

In fact, Jesus said that we would accomplish GREATER THINGS than He did!

John 14:12

12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

THE TEACHER

When you invite the Holy Spirit to speak into your life, things will change! You will begin to see and hear things in the Word of God you've never seen before. He promises to reveal himself to us. If you ask the Holy Spirit to teach you God's word, He is faithful to do so, because it is HIS  will for you to know HIS WORD! When you dive into the Word of God, his voice becomes more clear to you.

Far too often, we ignore His voice when we hear it. We have become desensitized to it. Many times, we brush off the voice of the Holy Spirit by thinking, "Oh, that's just a passing thought" or, "It didn't mean anything." On the contrary, the Holy Spirit may be trying to teach you something, impart wisdom, or keep you from doing something you know you shouldn't do. We must learn to listen to the Holy Spirit, and accept the correction, and direction of the Lord. True repentance leads to freedom, and with that freedom comes great joy!

But first, PRAY

Many times, we need wisdom to handle a difficult situation. Maybe there is conflict with your spouse or children. Maybe you just got yourself into a sticky situation at work. Maybe you said something hurtful to a friend or co-worker. Whatever it may be, your first instinct should be to PRAY! Turn to your Heavenly Father and ask for him to impart wisdom on you. The Holy Spirit will show you how do deal with whatever is goin on. If you are in error, repent quickly and resolve the situation. Don't give room for pride! Let the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth!

LUKE 21:14-15
14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer;

15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.

1 JOHN 2:26-27
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.

27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

STAND IN THE GAP

The Holy Spirit is constantly helping you navigate your own choices, but sometimes, He may give you discernment about what's going on in someone else's life too. It can be difficult to handle correction in our own lives, but the Holy Spirit will always show you how to deal with sin in your life. In the same way, if you allow His voice to guide you, He can show you how to pray for someone else as well.

If the Holy Spirit shows you something about a friend, family member, or co-worker - it's not for you to judge and condemn them, but to pray and stand in faith for them! He has called us to stand in the gap for one another and have each other's backs.

Ezekiel 22:30

30 So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.

Just like this scripture says, God is looking for someone to stand in the gap for each other, and pray. But in that instance, he didn't find one.  Don't be like that! Instead of harboring bad thoughts about someone, that's the moment when you need to slow down and really listen to the Holy Spirit. God may want use you as a prayer warrior, fighting the enemy on behalf of someone else! You never really know what's going on in someone else's life, so be obedient and pray.

That being said, just because the Holy Spirit reveals something about somebody else to you -does not give you the right to gossip about them to someone else. It also doesn't mean you should go up and say anything to them. That might cause embarrassment or be upsetting. Keep it to yourself, pray diligently and be obedient to what the Holy Spirit leads you to do. Unless he specifically prompts you go up and speak to them, just keep praying and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you on their behalf.

PRAYER
Father, thank you for your Word! Thank you for the Holy Spirit, whom you sent to dwell within us and teach us to be sensitive to Your voice. Give us great understanding and wisdom, just as your word says that you will! Show was great and mighty things which we do not know! Stir up an excitement in your people and a hunger to know you more and more. Help us hear your voice!

In Jesus' name,

Amen
