Finding God

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Matthew 6:33

Seeking God first will bring so much joy to your life, with countless benefits. So, why is it that so many believers are comfortable sitting on the sidelines and letting their pastors and spiritual leaders tell them what God's word says, rather than finding out for themselves?

Many are afraid to pursue God first, because they don't know what He will ask them to do. They are afraid to step out of their comfortable religion, or move from the back pew they've sat at for over 20 years. Some feel as though they aren't worthy to seek His face fully. But that's just a lie from the enemy! When you seek God first in your life and truly run after Him, you have nothing to fear. In fact, you have so much more to gain when you experience more of Him. He wants you to!

If you read Matthew 6 in its entirety, Jesus tells us that if we seek God first, in every area of your life, not only will you find Him, but you will have great peace and all your needs will be met. DEUTERONOMY 4:29-31 29 But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the LORD your God and obey His voice 31 (for the LORD your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.

THE LORD IS LOOKING FOR YOU

We have a promise from the Lord that He will never abandon or forsake His children. He desires a relationship with us! He wants to spend time with you and be a blessing to you. He is a just God and forgives us when we sin. He's merciful to us, even when we've messed up. We all have things in our past that we aren't proud of, but He sent Jesus to reconcile us back into fellowship with HIM! MATTHEW 23:37 37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Does that sound like a God that's out to get you? No! God just wants to hold you, protect you, love you, provide for you, heal you, and be your friend. Stop running from him because of your past.

PSALMS 14:2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.

JEREMIAH 29:13 And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart

He is actively looking for our hearts! He desires for each of us to have a close relationship with Him and have intimate fellowship with Him. Isn't that awesome! The creator of the Universe wants an intimate and personal relationship with YOU! You just have to dive into His word and seek His face, and He promises that YOU WILL FIND HIM!

Prayer

Father, I recognize how foolish I've been to not seek you first. Forgive me for laziness on my part or believing a lie about who you are and what you want from me. I have nothing to fear, and everything to gain. Teach me how to seek you first and have the intimate fellowship you desire to have with me.

I want to have the peace and joy that can only be found in you. Lord, I give you permission to invade my thoughts, so that my mind and heart are always seeking you. Help me to know that your presence is always with me to guide and speak to me. In Jesus precious name! Amen
